Lyrics Study, Word of God Speak

Mercy Me is a contemporary Christian band that has been producing some wonderful songs. “Word of God Speak” is a true pearl.

True prayer, and true worship, is two-way communication. Many treat it as subservience; a duty performed for a beloved Lord, or an act of devotion. These are good reasons, certainly – but God wants more. God wants relationship, and relationship requires communication.

Communication requires both talking and listening. Most folks are pretty good at the talking part. Prayer and worship are used for praising, thanking, requesting, venting, and sometimes questioning. The listening side, however, is what creates communication. The song ‘Word of God Speak’ [Pete Kipley and Bart Millard, copyright 2002 Simpleville Music/Wordspring Music Inc] addresses that oft-neglected side of prayer and worship that produces the most effective and meaningful worship. Here are the lyrics to this Mercy Me song.

I’m finding myself at a loss for words
And the funny thing is, it’s okay
The last thing I need is to be heard
But to hear what You would say

Word of God speak, would you flow down like rain
Washing my eyes to see your majesty
To be still and know that You’re in this place
Please let me stay and rest in Your holiness
Word of God, speak.

I’m finding myself in the midst of you
Beyond the music, beyond the noise
All that I need is to be with You
And in the quiet I hear Your voice

The idea behind the song is that for communication to take place, one must listen. Listening requires quiet, stillness, and attention. It means that we get the focus off of ourselves, and take the time to hear and feel the communicator – whether that is another person or God. This is the time when God can most effectively touch us, because all our attention is on recognizing Him. Yet this is the part of worship that is so often neglected.

The writer, Bart Millard of Mercy Me, said it this way. “Sometimes,” he said, “our limited vocabulary is almost impossible to use to speak of an infinite God. There are just no words to use. And that was the first line-I think sometimes we say a little too much, and the more we talk, it seems the further we get from the word of God.” He credits Gospel singer Larnelle Harris for the inspiration for this song. He is also awed by the reaction he gets from fans. When the band plays concerts they get the expected cheers and applause for most of their music. When they perform this song, however, they don’t. What they get is a hushed room full of people, singing with him. He says it is magic.

The bible instructs us to be still, and to rest in the Lord. Psalm 37 states we should be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him. Psalm 46 exhorts us to be still and know that He is the exalted Lord. In chapter 14 of Exodus, God tells the Hebrews that He will fight for them, and that they have only to be still. The idea of resting in the Lord is throughout the bible. Sometimes it is the concept of being at peace or trusting Him. Sometimes, as in chapter 16 of Leviticus when speaking of the holy sabbath, it is the idea of complete worship where no work is done, and the mind is to be focused on Him. Jesus exhorted us in chapter 11 of Matthew to bring our burdens to Him, and He will give us rest.

It is important to talk to God. It is restful and joyous to worship God. But from listening to God, from being still and focusing on God, you gain understanding, peace, and fulfillment – and often direction and instruction. You also gain true relationship. This is the total benefit and worth of prayer and worship. Please, God, let me stay and rest in Your holiness.

THE FART CHRONICALS FARTS PART FIVE

Farts 5: Funny Faces and Places
Bo Jack Russo on Jan 22, 2009

Plug your noses when reading this.

Ah, the joy
The blissful release
Of passing round the gas
That comes
Out of the ass
We call it the fart
Or a pedo
Don’t you know
What a wonderful feeling
And a pleasurable
Blasting blow
The farts I like the best
Are the ones that
Almost hurt
The farts that
I like less
Are the ones that squirt
Farts are lots of fun
For every boy and girl
If a fart smells bad enough
It can probably make you hurl
I like to fart in elevators
Or small confining spaces
Just to see the look
On offended peoples faces
Some farts can be strong
And blow those cheeks apart
Another great place
To let one rip
Is the food aisle
At Wal-Mart
It’s fun to fart on a bus
And cause a great big fuss
Or farting in a car
The smell can’t travel far
Farting is not allowed
On The Bo Jack Express
One passenger farted
After eating chili
And left a brown
Soupy mess
Farting in the bathroom
Is really such a waste
When you could be sharing
The scent of your butt paste
So have fun with those farts
And just let them fly
I’ll enjoy my farts
Forever
At least until I die
I’ll bet we can fart
In the hereafter
For humor in the sky
The only fart that’s wrong
Is to fart in someone’s eye
A fart up close like that
Would probably make you cry

SUNDAY MORNING CONVERSATION PART I

Are You an Example?

The short answer is, Yes – you are! But what kind of example are you?

Are You An Example?

The short answer is, yes you are! Good or bad, nice or ugly, right or wrong – you are an example in everything that you do. If you ever identified yourself as a Christian, you can count on the fact that you are watched closely by people you never even thought about. The question to ask, then, isn’t “are you an example”, but “what kind of example are you”?

The Bible is full of stories of normal, everyday men and women like you and me. Reading them one comes to realize that people haven’t changed all that much over the centuries. Cultures, styles, and available information change all the time. People… not so much. Included here are some stories of people with life views you will recognize as seeing every day. Maybe you look at life like one of them yourself.

Lot: Can’t we all just get along? – (Genesis 11 to14, 18 to19, 2Peter 2:8)

Lot came from the land of Ur before Israel was a recognized nation. He was the nephew of Abraham, a man of great faith, and knew the power of the Lord. He was immensely blessed by God and became very rich. God sent an angel who personally took Lot by the hand and dragged him to safety, so evidently Lot lived a relatively righteous life in his own house. The apostle Peter called him a “righteous man, vexed in his righteous soul … with their lawless deeds”.

Lot had a problem, though. He had no guts to make a stand. So anxious was he to get along, to not make waves, that he didn’t even have influence over his own wife and family, much less anybody else. By failing to stand for anything, he ended up standing for nothing – a pitiful and wasted life. More than that; he taught his daughters to stand for nothing as well. They became the progenitors of two nations, the Moabites and the Ammonites, who in future times would cause great trouble for both Jews and Christians.

Today Christians fall into this same trap. They are taught to be meek, to obey authority, and to be peacemakers. However, the Bible does not instruct us to be peacemakers at all cost. In fact it teaches us to stand up for what is right, protect those who cannot protect themselves, and be unashamed of the gospel of Christ. We are sometimes to be warriors! We are always to stand for truth and righteousness.

Though God did not abandon Lot, his life was totally ineffective as a man, a father, and a godly influence. His choice to just get along affected not only his own life, but that of his children and ultimately the entire Jewish nation that was yet to come. You never know what far-reaching consequences your actions or in-actions may have.

Sampson: Lovin’ life to the fullest! – (Judges Chapters 13 to 16)

Sampson had the world by the tail. Though Israel was ruled by the Philistines during his reign as a judge, he had a promise from God that he thought protected him. He had been born with the promise that he would begin the overthrow of the Philistines. He had great sex appeal, incredible strength, and a promise of greatness. Life was good! He was invincible, right?

Instead of judging with integrity, Sampson depended on his greatness to see him through, and figured he could pretty much do whatever he wanted – especially where the ladies were concerned. It was his undoing, for small sins lead to bigger ones, and the consequences of sin are always devastating. His pride and swaggering earned him hatred, and his weakness with women got him captured and tortured by his enemies. In the end, he saw it and came back to the Lord in obedience. God honored both His own promise and Sampson’s repentance by allowing him the chance to destroy a whole coliseum filled with Philistines, killing them all and himself along with them. This turned out to be the fulcrum that turned the tide between them and Israel.

Are you one who has life by the tail? Your conviction that you can do anything you want may come back to bite you. Read the whole story of Sampson, and think about the possible consequences you may be inviting for yourself.

Gideon: Check your sources before you act – (Judges Chapters 6, 7, 8)

Gideon was a pretty normal ‘little guy’, a Jew of the tribe of Manasseh. In his day, the neighboring country of Midian was in control of the whole area. Since Jews were known to obey and worship God instead of the ruling powers, the Midianites delighted in forcing them to build altars to their gods as part of their tyrannical rule. They also delighted in camping out in the grain fields, destroying all the produce and stealing all the stock so the Jews had little food to sustain themselves. By the time Gideon was called by God, Israel had been brought very low indeed.

Gideon was a careful man. He did what he had to do to survive. He hid his stock in mountain caves, and threshed his wheat in a wine press to hide the food from the Midianites. He believed in God and believed the stories of God’s intervention on their behalf. But he was also very careful to check his sources of information before he acted.

When an angel of the Lord appeared to him to let him know he had been chosen to lead an army against their enemies, he didn’t shout “Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!” No, he checked the source. He asked the angel – who looked like a man – to let him serve lunch first, so the angel could give him a sign that he was who he said he was. The angel agreed. Gideon spent some time, roasting a young lamb and making cakes to go with it. When he took the meal out at last, the angel had him put it on a rock. Then he burst the meal into flames and disappeared. Now, poor Gideon thought he was going to die for questioning an angel! But the Lord calmed him, knowing his heart was for proving the source, not questioning the word of the Lord.

Later God revealed His battle plan, and Gideon again tested the source. He laid out a piece of sheepskin fleece, and asked God to soak it with dew but leave the ground around it dry. The following night he asked God to leave the fleece dry but soak the ground around it with dew. God performed both signs for him, again approving his desire to be sure of his source of information. You see, Gideon was not questioning God. He was just verifying the source. Once sure, Gideon obeyed his instructions to the letter, and defeated a huge and world-renowned army with a little band of 300 men. He later became a judge for Israel, serving for 40 years.

Are you a careful person? When presented information, do you jump on the bandwagon or carefully look for the truth? The story of Gideon shows the value in checking your sources.

Paul: The Proverbial Zealot – (Principally the books of Acts, Corinthians II, and Galatians)

Paul’s original name was Saul of Tarsus. He was the Jewish world’s principle zealot. So deeply did he love the Lord that he burned to rid the world of all who would tarnish His holy Name. Well, that sounds pretty good, doesn’t it? He was loyal, eager, and dedicated, the best of the best. He sincerely believed he was serving God and the greater good by persecuting and killing Christians. The trouble was, he was sincerely wrong. It took God kicking him off his horse and robbing him of his eyesight to get the truth through his thick head. Do you know anybody like that in today’s world?

Though his information was wrong, his heart was right – and God honored that by making him the principle apostle to the gentile world. Through him, God was able to teach and touch nations far removed from Israel, and establish His church to the ends of the earth.

Are you zealous for what you think is right? Good for you! But make sure your heart does not over-rule your head. Be sure of your facts before you speak, and learn to speak truth in a way that creates thought and trust, rather than hostility and anger. Paul had many regrets for a life wasted before he finally got it right. Learn from his example.

So, what kind of example are you?

There are many, many biblical stories of ordinary men and women. Some get it right, and do extraordinary things or are blessed in extraordinary ways. Some don’t get it, and have consequences and regrets to deal with – some that are far-reaching. Most are a mixture of the two, just like folks today. It is my hope and prayer that you examine your own like and attitudes, and choose wisely – hour by hour, and day by day.

Christian Lafeur (My favorite preacherman) his contribution this week...
Tearing Pages Out of The Bible: From The Theologian’s Corner

The Bible is filled with so many amazing stories, lessons, guides and rules for how to live a sanctified life. What is peculiar about the assembly of believers is we take and add from the Bible to suit our own selfish desires. Are we just ripping pages out of the bible is the question?

Let us explore and examine a few examples of tearing pages out of the Bible that we don’t like. Think back in time when you were a child. There was a always a child on the block who was spoiled and had all the toys your parents had not purchased for you yet. If you were the poor kid as I was, you may recall the other kid not getting his way, pout-ting and taking all his toys in the house. The Christians in today’s assembly of believers are not much better. They refuse to accept correction and reproofing. They only care to hear uplifting messages that pertain to making life easier. These are people who are not willing to accept what is wrong in their lives. They totally ignore all the fingers that point at them. I like to refer to these people as those who tear pages out of the bible.

The Bible doesn’t say that

The age old response from someone who does not want to accept what is being said about the gospel is, ” my Bible don’t say that.” It would help if they actually read their Bible. I have found this as the most common way to rip pages right out of the Good Book. It seems that whenever the Bible says something that contradicts our sinful practices, we ignore that part and pretend we have never heard or saw that. Are we so selfish, and are our ears that clogged, that we will not take time to acknowledge the words of God? I recall sitting in a Denny’s restaurant having dinner with to women friends. One of them received a phone call telling her that a friend had committed suicide. The other lady upon finding out the news reacted to the info by saying, ” he is going to hell.” I immediately wanted to minister to them, and that’s where everything went down hill. I asked them what made them so sure that the guy was going to hell because he took his own life. I went on to explain to them that the Bible gave to examples of suicide that I am not going to go into in this article. I further explained that the teaching was out of Roman Catholic theology, and was like many other teaching from Catholicism, not backed up by scripture. Why did I say that? The girl was stumped, so she called her sister whom she believed had a better defense. She did not, and so she went to insults and a un- Christian tantrum. The conclusion to this is, we had to go through all this because this person was not willing to listen to or accept scripture. She was dead set on ignoring the scriptures in the Bible I gave her, Thus she removed them in her mind. As far as she was concerned, those scriptures were not there. She had torn them out in her mind, and therefore torn them out of the Bible. Let me refer you to Revelation 1:3, Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.

Jesus didn’t say that, the Apostle Paul did

In this new Christian era we are in, it amazes me that Christians are still questioning the Apostle Paul’s Authority and Apostleship. When ever there is a scripture mentioned out of the Pauline epistles that some one doesn’t like, it is often disregarded and shunned. People often say, Jesus didn’t say that, Paul did. I always thought that Jesus selected him, and made him Apostle to the gentiles. I found well over a dozen scriptures to validate his Apostleship, but I will just use one. Romans 11:13, For I speak to you Gentiles; inasmuch as I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I magnify my ministry. Over 2000 years have passed and this is still an issue amongst believers. I read a statistic that only 13 percent of Christians believe the Bible is 100 % true and infallible. This is a scary number for Christendom, and woe to the 87 percent who just tear the pages out they don’t like. If you are concerned about substantiating the data, please don’t hesitate to view some of the comments left on my past articles. I have heard Paul referred to as a chauvinist pig, and that his teachings are not relevant today. Let me state for the record that the epistles were obviously not written to us, but they were certainly written for us. I believe that Paul’s role if you compare it to this modern church era, he was the equivalent to what we refer to today as a district bishop, or head bishop etc. Paul was with no doubt overseeing and supervising several churches and their pastors. This work that Paul was doing, he was no doubt selected by Jesus to do it. Let me refer you to Acts 9:15-16, But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to carry my name before the Gentiles and their kings and before the people of Israel. I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.” How is it that we have omitted this from the Bible for our own selfish convenience? Your guess is as good as mine.

Conclusion

Christians can’t be in line with the world. We must hold everything that is written in the Bible as fact and not fiction. Christians must die to this sinful flesh daily, and strive to do the best we can to represent the word of God as Ambassadors of Christ. After all it is fair to conclude if Christians don’t believe the word of God, we cant expect to convince any one its worth believing. Christianity is all about faith and love yet it is fair statement that there is not much love or faith in the laws and instructions our saviour left with His disciples for the betterment on mankind. If we do not begin to display that God is written on every function in our lives, Christianity will continue to be an estimated 33 percent of the world population and declining. Let me conclude with a scripture for you to marinade on. Refer to Deuteronomy 6:6-7, These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

SUNDAY MORNING CONVERSATION PART II!!

Maranatha's contribution this week. She writes on several sites, but I'll list this one for now.
Maranatha's Triond profile.
Lyrics Study: There’s a Hand on My Shoulder

Sandi Patty is undeniably one of the great Christian vocalists of all time. In her personal life, however, even she struggled with sin. This song describes the loneliness of that low place – and the recognition of where help lies.

One of the gospel greats of all time, Sandi Patty, recorded a song titled “There’s a Hand on My Shoulder” that could have been a description of portions of her own life – or mine, or yours. She came to that familiar place where everything was going well, and she relaxed her vigil over her own heart. The temptation to sin is always right there next to us, and it wasn’t long before she drifted into it. In the song, she recognizes too late where she is, and the loneliness of her position is overwhelming. The song is a poignant reminder that God is still with you, no matter what. Here is an excerpt:

“My heart’s breaking up inside me
How could anyone feel so alone?
Tears flow, pouring from my sorrow
No one here but me knows I’m alive.
And the thunder rolls in me, as the rain falls endlessly -
Who can save me from my life?

There’s a hand, a hand on my shoulder
Through the storm, however it blows
There’s a hand, a hand on my shoulder,
Stays with me wherever I go.”

Nobody is immune to the attraction of sin. Temptation comes in all types and forms, and is different for each of us. Guarding our hearts from temptation continues daily – sometimes hourly. It is not during the battles that most of us slide away from God’s will; it is during the respites, when life is good and everything is going our way. We relax our guard, enjoy the ride a little. For most of us that also means our prayers taper off a little, our study slows, and our thoughts tend to center more on the ride and less on the Creator. This is when we are most vulnerable to temptation, because we don’t see it coming until we have already stepped in its zone. Sometimes the battle to pull ourselves out can be excruciatingly lonely.

Remember, when you get to that lonely place, that it is you who left God – not the other way around. He is still there, right next to you with a hand on your shoulder. If you turn toward Him, He will show you the way out and bring you back to a place of blessing. Remember too that you are not alone in this place. Every one of us has been there. Talk to any mature Christian and you will find a supporter who understands from experience your situation.

You can weather the storm, however it blows. God promises in His word that no matter what the situation, He will provide a way out of it. He also promises that He will never leave or forsake you, and that you are His forever. Feel the Hand on your shoulder, and turn toward it. Get back to your prayer life, start studying the Bible and seeking to understand it, and get back in the company of solid, mature Christians who can support and uplift you. This is the way you “armor up” to continue the battle of guarding your heart.

Talking to Atheists
By StephenJArdent
Serious discussion

If you're going to have a serious discussion with someone regarding God, Jesus Christ, the Church, et al, there some things you need to do and keep in mind whether you are talking to an atheist, an ex-christian, or an agnostic.
Logical Arguments & Strawmen

The first thing you need to do is increase your knowledge. If you are not already familiar with what makes something a logical argument and what makes something a fallacy, then it's time to bone up. If you don't know you may make the mistake of making an argument, which may be perfectly valid, but which does not follow the laws of logic. You will then be ridiculed for lacking critical thinking skills and the discussion will be over. Here are some basic types of fallacious or illogical thinking so you may recognize them before you use one or if one is used against you.

* Ad Hominem - which means "against the man". Commonly called an "ad hominem attack". A speaker will say something, the second speaker will attack the the first speaker in some way with the conclusion being that what the first speaker said is wrong. The fallacy is that regardless of what is said about the first speaker, it bears no relevance to whether what he said is true or not.
* Argumentum ad verecundiam - the appeal to authority. Stating something is true simply because someone who is recognized as "an authority" says it is.
* Argumentum ad populum - the appeal to numbers. Stating something is true simply because a lot of people say it is.
* Petitio Principii - also know as "begging the question". This is where a question is raised where some statement that is part of the question is assumed to be true. For example - have you stopped beating your wife? It assumes facts that are not in evidence. It assumes a truth that is not yet proven.
* Argumentum ad ignorantiam - also know as the "burden of proof". This is a fallacy that says because we cannot prove "A" therefore "B" is true.
* Genetic fallacy - this fallacy happens when there is perceived to be a problem with the origin of either a statement or a piece of evidence and because of this problem the fallacy states that the evidence is therefore not true.
* Strawman - in the strawman fallacy an opponent will repeat your statement or evidence, but change it slightly, sometimes extremely, but this change turns your statement into a strawman, since it is no longer what you actually said or the evidence you presented. It is called a strawman because once it is changed your opponent quickly and with little problem shoots your evidence down. Don't let them anyone get away with re-stating things in manner which changes them

Definitions

When we say something is moral or good, or evil and bad, we usually mean that it is absolute. That such an act is good or evil, for all people, any where, any time. The problem is that to the atheist, this is not the case. Morality, good and evil, are simply whatever happens to be current societal whim. The current societal norm becomes the standard by which every thing is measured.

The most moral man to the atheist is the man who is the biggest conformist.

To think, or to try and argue any other position is simply delusion. Whether that argument says that some moral may be for evolutionary good, or socially good, the argument quickly breaks down that a) evolution as defined is a process, it wants nothing, it has no goals, and therefore has only the basest of standards; and b) it makes the assumption that survival of the species, or efficiency of the species is a good thing. But how does one determine that? By what standard is survival good? Why is life good?

For the evolutionist, it isn't. It simply is.
Level Playing Field

People go through life picking up all kinds of assumptions about a lot things. Many times these assumptions are wrong. Before one can have a serious, and honest, discussion about Christianity we must make sure that wrong assumptions, wrong "facts", are dealt with. By "dealt with" I mean that we must make the other person aware that we do not accept their assumption as valid without proof. Their assumptions are not evidence of anything. Here are some examples of assumptions that people have regarding Christianity and the universe that are assumptions, not facts in evidence.

* Evolution has been proven.
* The origin of life has been proven.
* That faith is blind.
* That there is no evidence Jesus ever existed.
* That Galileo was persecuted by the church because he thought the Earth revolved around the Sun.
* That Hitler was a Christian.
* That Christianity is responsible for more suffering, wars, and bloodshed that anything else in the world.
* The Bible is full of proven contradictions.
* That millions of people died in the Inquisition.
* That millions of people were burned at the stake as witches.

None of these things have been proven true, several are outright provable lies. Which is why we must not allow the person we are speaking with to set the terms, we must not allow the other person to litter the playing field with bogus "facts".

Learn the assumptions the other person is bringing to the table and don't let them force their assumptions on you or the discussion.

It is the only intellectually honest way to debate.

"I am the Potter, and you are the clay…."

Image via Wikipedia

A small lump of dross rolled around in the clay

Frantically trying to improve his appeal

His metal was hard; he did many things well

Yet when mirrored, he saw what others could feel

He was nowhere near perfect, nor could he refine

The dross that shot through him and made him unclean

And ruled every action of body and mind.

Then the silversmith spoke to the small lump of dross,

And said, there is silver all through you, I know.

For I Am the smith, and if you will just trust,

I can clean out the dross till you’re clean as new snow.

Yes, I Am the smith, and your silver is true

With my help, you will see what your worth truly is

In time, you will be a most wonderful you.

Said the dross, I have tried every way that I know

To clean out the dross, I’ve given it my best.

You are the smith, and to you I will bend

So find all this silver you say I possess;

Mold me and make of me what I should do

A shining example; a light to this world,

A perfect and simple reflection of you.

Said the smith, do you know what you ask of me here?

For virtue is gained through temptation and test;

No race worth running is won without work,

And so many failures precede your true best.

You don’t need to be perfect; for I’ll be there too

To help on the way, provide tools that you need,

And carry you when the road caves under you.

And so the small lump, with this promise endowed,

Chose a new road to follow, and measured his pace.

From his failures he learned; and confidence grew

As the dross began fading through each trial he faced.

The silversmith worked with moves strong and sure

Till the picture he saw when he looked closely there

Was his visage reflected, holy and pure.

For this is the worth of each fine little lump;

By ourselves we are dross, and for heaven not fit.

And how can we live with a most perfect God

If we are not so when we come to it?

So he gives us redemption; then for us he fights

By removing the dross till all that remains

Is fine silver, so worthy of Heaven’s delights.

OK I'm still Captain around these parts so here's my contribution:

THE FART CHRONICALS FARTS PART 4 FARTS FOREVER MORE!!

Funny Farts 4: Farts Forever More
Bo Jack Russo on Jan 4, 2009

The ecstasy of farts and their smells.

My oh my the joy of passing wind
Once the gas is passed the offender can’t rescind
Tall people fart high
Short people fart low
But every single fart
Can be a blasting blow
I fart during daytime
The wife, she farts at night
Some people fart in cars
And some fart up in flight
The flatulent is a mystery
Has been for all time
When you both fart in unison
It can produce a pleasing rhyme
Farts can be such fun
Joggers fart during long runs
Just don’t push them out to hard
You might soil your buns
The farts that you anticipate
Are the ones that make you wait
Or the ones you contemplate
When you eat beans on your plate
They usually aren’t grand
But they are always great
Farts feel good when late
Or rushing out the gate
Farts are really special
But not unique to you or I
Cats and dogs fart too
And they don’t even try
So when you see that spark
Or twinkle in someone’s eye
Please hope they don’t deny
We should enjoy farts until we die
Don’t miss out on the joy
Of every girl and boy
Feel free to share your farts
To let every one enjoy
So don’t you dare hold back
So you do like Bo Jack
Even if you don’t agree
Just pull down your pants
Bend over and then let
All your farts spray free!

BO PICKS NFL WEEK 7!!

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME BO PICKS?

*
New England at Tampa Bay (1:00 PM)
Oh, this should be some kind of fun to watch. Tommy boy Brady is back in the saddle and the Patriot Express is alive and kicking, Welker is back, Moss found the timing with Brady again, this should be entertaining as the founding fathers smash the pirate Buc's teeth out. Florida gets pounded by the New England tsunami, Pats roll by 15 points on the road.
*
Indianapolis at St. Louis (1:00 PM)
Payton is floating on cruise control, the blue horses will score on every offensive possession, Bulger will be playing from behind all day, throw a few balls to the other team and this one gets ugly fast. Bo picks the Colts by 15 points.
*
Minnesota at Pittsburgh (1:00 PM)
Football at it's finest. Can someone say 1970's powerhouse matchup? Only instead of Fran the man and Mean Joe & Chuck Forman it's Brett, big Ben, fast Willie & AP. My game of the week. Power football that turns into a shootout. I'm going to go against my instincts here and say the Norsman's break through the steel curtain and bring a 2 point victory to Valhalla.
*
San Diego at Kansas City (1:00 PM)
This game will be closer than you think, KC can run and throw, Larry Johnson is always hard to tackle, but I think the Chargers have been embarrassed enough, time to shut up and play football. The one Charger who does talk will be my man PR. When Rivers gets pissed, he'll kick some ass, unlike most he's BETTER when upset. At 2-3 he's not happy. Tomlinson has been getting so close to breaking out lately, this should be the week, a good ground game in noisy Arrohead Stadium. Bo Pick...Lightning strikes, the Chiefs lose by 5.
*
San Francisco at Houston (1:00 PM)
Tough road game here and tough loss last week for my upstart Niners. Not this week Mike Singletary hates to lose. The oil barons are inconsistent at best. The Frisco defense is too much for Shaub to overcome, The San Fransisco Treat is handed to the home team, Bo pick the city by the bay by a touchdown, 6 point victory.
*
Green Bay at Cleveland (1:00 PM)
Aaron Rodgers loves this, Cheeseheads beat the Dawgs, Bo picks by 8 points.
*
Buffalo at Carolina (4:05 PM)
Carolina isn't what they used to be, something tells me the Bison's steal this from under the big black cats, Bo gives 1 point.
*
N.Y. Jets at Oakland (4:05 PM)
Airplanes versus ships, got to go with technology, Jets cross oceans faster. The only quarterback who can compete with the ineptitude of JaMarcus Russell is Ryan Leaf, and we all remember how that experiment turned out. The black hole gets lit up by the jet engine, Bo gives 5 points, road win for the Jets.
*
Chicago at Cincinnati (4:15 PM)
Lions and tigers and bears oh my... minus the lions; I'll take Carson over shytown just because they are at home. Bo gives 2 points. Cincinnati takes this game.
*
Atlanta at Dallas (4:15 PM)
Very good game here. I'm on the fence here. Something in my gut just says pick the dirty birds, but I keep thinking of last second heroics by Romo. So I'll take... Atlanta by 2.
*
New Orleans at Miami (4:15 PM)
After mowing down the mighty G-men last week the Drew Brees & Company Express looks pretty unstoppable. Even if the wildcat works, the breeze will blow into that humid place and overpower the fish. Drew Crew by 8.
*
Arizona at N.Y. Giants (8:20 PM)
The Giants are too good to lose 2 in a row after getting spanked by New Orleans.Eli does not get rattled, the G-men score early and often. Warner may throw for 400 yards but also serve up a couple of tasty interceptions, as he always does when playing from behind. Giants by 8.

Monday Night Football
Philadelphia at Washington (8:30 PM)
Well this should be easy, the Eagles are not playing in the city of brotherly love and they won't show any. The pride bird of this nation will humiliate the white house, dismantling the Redskins. The Eagles in a laugher, win by 9

THE ANGELS ARE STILL IN IT!!

They won the battle last night, now it's a serious dogfight, to be continued Saturday!

A BEAUTIFUL MAGICAL SPOT, PADRE DAM, SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA!!

A Beautiful Magical Spot
Re released today. Bo Jack Russo on Jan 22, 2009

A little calming soothing place I used to love visiting.

I want to take you with me to a special place, with a little existential foreshadowing of Jimmy and Buck’s next adventure, you already got just a taste at the end of Jimmy & Buck, part two. It is not a fictional place, but certainly a magical one.

Down here in San Diego town, there is an amazing place, that is a national historic protected landmark.

It’s called Padre Dam. This is where Father Juniperra Serra with help of the local natives built a flume and a dam to water their crops and lessen the flood plane. That was in 1769. The San Diego River, while not the mighty Mississippi, is a river that immediately increases ten fold at the slightest hint of rain, because it sits above an enormous body of water underground.

Image via Wikipedia

It is almost impossible to believe, but the River starts in The Cuyamaca Mountains, and travels a mere 52 miles before it dumps into the Pacific Ocean. Fifty two miles might not sound like a lot, but if you could visualize the twists and turns this river takes, and the terrain it covers, you would be amazed. The river also separates often into many different veins.

On what we call the San Diego end there is a little tourist guide center, describing the wild life you can expect to see there. There are literally countless species of birds, and sometimes new ones are discovered, There are deer in the deeper parts, coyotes, squirrels, some rabbits, rattle snakes, ducks and trout.

At one end of the road, three cities come together, San Diego(towards Mission Valley) La Mesa and Santee.

When you go down in this scenic place, You can start at the Santee side, and go down some hiking trails. It used to be a great kept secret, but no longer.

If you know the terrain, and go deeper into the marsh, it gets a little wet and mushy, but if you can press past this, it will become dry again. It is full of picturesque boulders, people rock climb there too. You will see many ducks also. The trees are wonderful, the rock shaping and formations are incredible and near the entrance of the trailhead are rocks where you can clearly see the age and transformation markings of the water at different levels. In many places you can see the indentations where Native Americans ground corn and other things.

There is another spot close to the entrance, there is a tree that is a miracle that I can remember since I was a child, On the other side of the river, but a spot close by can be crossed if you know how. The tree roots are exposed on one side in the river, and you could spend hours just watching in wonder, about how that tree never falls down.

In the rain, There is no better place I know of than to be down in that riverbed. An absolutely amazing change of scenery unfolds right before your eyes. Within five minutes the water will raise a foot and widen out very quickly, and the tree root scene turns into a mini white water rush.

What I really wanted to share is when you get past the marsh, you can go deeper into the riverbed, and it turns into a bit of a mystical forest. Down past where most people go, it gets a little ugly and then pretty again.

Near a big tree and a giant rock, there is a boulder in the middle of the river, with a flat surface. If you can jump far enough, or swing from the tree, you can land on the rock. It’s a little dangerous, and yes, your feet can slip on the rocks and you cam get hurt, but once you get on the rock, even if you have to go in the water, it is like heaven on earth.

So here is the best part. You lay on your back, and spend a little while staring at the sky and what’s around you, and let the serenity and ambiance sink in, you begin to feel at peace. Then you close your eyes and open your ears and listen to God’s symphony surround you. The water rippling in stereo, the wonderful plethora of sounds easing into your ears, the shuffling of the wind throughout the trees and bushes. You can enjoy the chirping birds all around, or a squirrel scampering through the leaves on the ground, a twig snapping on the ground, a quack from a duck or one just strolling by, minding his own business.

I haven’t been to a lot of places in my life, but that little hideaway was fantastic, and took me a million miles away, you know I have to end this with something funny, so here it is, but this one is true.

Twice in my life I got so relaxed and in total euphoria, I fell in the water. I had been lucky many times and it was just a hand or a foot, but even if you fell in, the price was well worth it.

Of course, I sure my magical place is no more, due to the tourist industry, all the freeways and the San Diego Trolley that bombarded the once sparcley populated utopia that was Santee and my riverbed.

One point I forgot to mention, as you go deeper and deeper into the riverbed, you can see evidence far above your head just how powerful this river can be at times, Pieces of clothing or debris caught in the trees that line the riverbed on both sides.

PHILLIES GOING TO WORLD SERIES, ANGELS, YANKEES SLUG IT OUT TONIGHT!!

Last night the Philadelphia Phillies closed out the Dodgers and go back to the World Series for the second straight year, crushing the Dodgers 10 to 4.
Tonight the Yankees visit Anaheim to try and close out the Angels, but they won't quit without a fight, should be a great game but the Yankees have been putting together some impressive games and have awesome power, many of the newer players have not seen the things A-Rod and Jeter have, and they can taste it bad.
So says Bo.
Congratulations to the 2009 Philadelphia Phillies!

He's a fucking idiot.

Bo Picks Em’ NFL Week Six Predictions

Published on October 14, 2009 by Bo Jack Russo in Football

* Houston at Cincinnati (1:00 PM)
* Bo Picks the new found confidence in the Bengal tigers to keep on rollin’, Cincy at home by 4.

* St. Louis at Jacksonville (1:00 PM)
* Bo says the Black cats at home take the bighorn mountain climbers at home by 3.

* Cleveland at Pittsburgh (1:00 PM)
* Bo is laughing hysterically here; Cleveland upsets Pitt… Yeah right. Pittsburgh runs them over like Bo’s freight train, the Daws lose big to the curtain on the road by 10.

* N.Y. Giants at New Orleans (1:00 PM)
* Holy guacamole and cheese; what a game here. Both have excellent speed, running and passing attacks and excellent defenses! the G-men have a defensive advantage but the Drew crew has Reggie Bush on special teams. Bo game of the week this is hard to call but I take Eli on the road, 1 point.

* Baltimore at Minnesota (1:00 PM)
* Bo says a good defensive battle and ground game will turn into a shootout and the dark birds lose on the road, Vikings and Brett take this, then stroll back to Valhalla.

* Detroit at Green Bay (1:00 PM)
* No contest. Cheese heads crush the mangy big cats at home by 6.

* Carolina at Tampa Bay (1:00 PM)
* The black Panthers whup the Bucs on the road, Jake got his groove back and wants to win again. 2 points and Carolina.

* Kansas City at Washington (1:00 PM)
* KC, Cassel, Larry, Vrabel will prove more than the Redskins can take home or not. Chiefs by 3.

* Philadelphia at Oakland (4:05 PM)
* Philly will Cheese steak BBQ the Oak town pirates on the road by 8.

Image via Wikipedia

* Arizona at Seattle (4:05 PM)
* The Desert rats will dehydrate the seabirds and leave victorious, Bo gives 3 points.

* Tennessee at New England (4:15 PM)
* Say it aint so but The mighty Titans are going to start 0-6. The Pats will be none too happy after the OT loss to the Denver donkeys. It’s a fight though, Vince Young will play, the beantowners win, 4 points.

* Buffalo at N.Y. Jets (4:15 PM)
* The high powered Jets should be able to beat the bisons, but this will be closer than you think, NYJ at home by 4.

Chicago at Atlanta (8:20 PM)

Oh I like this one, shootout without a doubt, with Cutler you are never out of a game, but I think in the end the dirty birds fly above the Bears by 4 at home.

Bo Jack money back guarantee.

Stop by and visit The Bo Jack Express the super train that never stops running.

Bo out.

Still no substitute for the real…

In the stillness of her room
She sat with crepe of every hue;
And pictured each an unknown bloom
For which she’d bring to light.

Tearing, cutting, twist and fold
Fragile paper-color bold–and
Each would have a center-gold
Defying mask of night.

Recalling forms within her mind,
She forms the petals-every kind
In patient detail, every line-
Imposters she creates.

Stems, leaves and even thorns
At her hands, so real were born, and
Even Earth was soon to mourn-the
Charlatans of fate.

Hours passed, this lonesome day
While paper gardens on display
Breathing life of ease, defrayed–
Of artist’s willful spite.

Complete deception now her feat
Sprays a fragrance natural sweet,
That bees and birds will try to eat
In longing, hunger flight

Then by and by at midnight’s hour,
She brings outside each handmade flower,
And celebrates her godly power–
In glorious disdain.

Yet sadness lives as well in dreams;
As truth is always what it seems;
And lonely always finds its means,
To melt them in the rain.

SUNDAY MORNING CONVERSATION!!

The Role of Women in The Church

There is much debate, and bad feelings, over what Scripture says about the role women should have and can hold in the Church.

Author clafleur recently wrote an article, Women Pastors, in Charge and Out of Order: From The Theologian’s Corner, which is generating quite bit of debate.
(This article was posted here last Sunday)

I am writing this article, not as a refutation or rebuttal, but rather as an alternative look at the same issues. While not as seasoned or scholarly as his, I hope you will take something away with you from reading it.
Women in Scripture

There are many who lay women’s status in society, being listed among the downtrodden, bereft of rights, treated like property, etc., at Scriptures doorstep. But this is simply a lie. Scripture paints a picture of women that is all-encompassing and runs the gamut from the moral failures of Jezebel and Herodias; to the flawed yet faithful like Rahab; to the clueless like Eve and Hagar; to the stalwart faithful like Phoebe, Prisca, and Junica. In other words, women come in as many varieties as men

Indeed, Scripture paints a picture of women as completely and utterly human. Scripture also paints a picture of women as having a high and valued place in the mind of God.

That accounts of the lives of women of faith are included is unprecedented considering the society where these things take place. Eve, Sarah, Ruth, Esther, Hagar, Mary, Margaret, Phoebe, Junica, and Prisca…

Important. Fully a part of the history of man. Fully a part of the unfolding of God’s plan. A pivotal part of the Gospel account.

Women were not considered capable of being a witness by the society of the time. They were unable to give legal testimony. Yet God sends not men, but women to be the first ones to witness the Resurrection miracle, the first ones to tell others.

This is important and sets the stage for the societal and cultural changes Christianity was about to bring to these people and to the civilizations of the world.
The Church at Ephesus

In Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians he speaks to the church at Ephesus. The church at Ephesus had problems. They were no longer behaving in a loving manner towards each other, which Paul says is because they have lost sight of their first love, and what that first love delivered them from. Paul then goes on to talk about not behaving like children, about growing in faith and maturity, about not behaving like the secular world. To speak the truth and not lies. To have good interactions with their children, for wives to submit themselves to their husbands, and for husbands to love their wives like Christ loves the Church.

We’ve got TROUBLE!!! Right here in River City!!! And that starts with “T” and that rhymes with “D” and that means DRAMA!!!

We have a whole lot of drama going on in the church at Ephesus. Drama between church members, within families and their children, and between husbands and wives. We have people interfering with other people’s lives, complaining, lies, people being busybodies…there was a whole lot of drama going on. It wasn’t just threatening the message being given out by the church, but the church itself was screaming towards destruction if this wasn’t brought under control.

So what does this have to do with the subject? What we want to know about is that letter Paul wrote to Timothy. That’s where the problem is.

I know…I know…but you see, Timothy was the pastor of the church at Ephesus.
Paul’s Letters to Timothy

1. Paul wrote a letter to the Christians of the Church at Ephesus.
2. Paul wrote a letter directly to Timothy as pastor of the Church at Ephesus.

So what we are reading when we read the Letters to Timothy are instructions to Timothy as pastor of church in turmoil. Now I’m not saying that they do not contain good advice for every Christian, but one must keep in mind the context the letter is written in if we want to understand it, and not read things into it that it doesn’t say.

So let’s take a look at clafleur’s first requirement – “If a man desires the position of a bishop, he desires a good work.” Well, it certainly does say both man in the first part, and he in the second. Or does it. Let’s look at the Greek: “pistoV o logoV ei tiV episkophV oregetai kalou ergou epiqumei“

The relevant portions here are “ei tiV” – If a man, and “epiqumei” – he desires. The problem here is that what we are looking at is simply an act of loose, or culturally relevant translation. The words “man” and “he” may be used generically to imply anyone and everyone. “ei tiV” translates as whoever or whatever, while “epiqumei” translates as longing, sincere desire, I want, he wants, they want, we want, you want, etc. If you are part of a culture that does not value women, holds them to a lesser estate than men, you would of course, translate them in that context, or a culture for which they generically refer to an inclusive all, translate the words as man and he, meaning anyone and everyone.

The simple fact is that women were an important part of the early church and held positions of power, and considering the freedom enjoyed by the saved, tells us what is the proper way to read this passage.

So let’s look at the second part in 1 Timothy 3:2 “A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober–minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach…“

It does indeed say husband of one wife. And here would be a good time to mention the fact that the Greek does not differentiate words for “man” and “husband”, or “woman” and “wife”. The translation relies solely on the context it is used in. In 1 Timothy 3:2 there are some who argue that the translation should be read using the generic form indicating a group of people of either sex. This may or may not be the case. However considering what we have learned about verse 1, this would follow in traditional biblical style of explaining something generally, and then going on to explain it in detail. In verses 3-10 we have a description of what constitutes a righteous man, and then beginning in verse 11 and following a breakdown of what a righteous woman is. Apparently listing the attributes required to be considered for the role of bishop.

In the original quote, Paul refers to Adam and Eve, the married couple. What do you think he is talking about?

Personally, using Scripture as a guide to understanding Scripture, the meaning is clear.
Jezebel

So what is the problem with the woman Jezebel? Was it that she was a woman? Doubtful. It is clear that the problem was two-fold. Firstly, she was a prophetess who used her position as such to lead the people away from the One true God, and lead them into blasphemous practices. Secondly, the church allowed it. Which was their sin, becoming secular, and adopting secular ways.

Any movement away from the Truth in Christ leads us away from the freedom in Christ we have.
I, Paul

I want you to compare two verses for me will you? The first is 1 Timothy 2:12 -

“I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man.”

The second is from 1 Corinthians 7:12

“I Paul, not the Lord, say this to the rest: If any brother has a wife who is not a believer and she is willing to live with him, he must not divorce her.”

Paul is a very ego-specific writer. When he speaks he uses the word “I” quite a bit. And since this is a personal letter to Timothy, a rescue-peptalk letter to a pastor who has lost control, it is up to the reader to determine what he means without including his usual disclaimer when speaking.

Look at 1 Timothy 2, the entire chapter. It’s a laundry list of how Christians, men and women, should behave. Remember the letter to the Ephesians, Paul is addressing to Timothy some of the problems that are tearing the church at Ephesus apart. Misbehavior, becoming too secular, becoming legalistic, adopting pagan practices, people not honoring the relationships in their lives. Specifically here, the one between husband and wife.

Compare what Paul says here to 1Timothy 2:8-15 and 1 Peter 3:1-7, here the admonitions are clearly talking about marriage. As a matter of fact, wherever Paul speaks about men and women, he is almost always speaking in terms of husband and wife.

Which leads to my next point…
Submission, Women, and the Church

It should be noted that wherever Scripture talks about women and submission, it is ALWAYS in regards to the marriage relationship. As we learn when we are told that after Jesus returns, men and women will be like the angels, being neither given or taken in marriage. The marriage hierarchy is for here, for this world, under these circumstances. The actual word used is “schema“, a woman submitting to her husband, the man being the head of the household, is God’s mandated scheme of things for here.

Since Ephesus was having drama with the relationships between husband and wife, that they were being drawn into secular and pagan practices, or going back to legalistic religion, and from Paul’s comment, it is apparent that the women of Ephesus were using their new found freedom in Christ to create quite a stir. Those more knowledgeable lording it over those less so, women creating strife in their own and others marriages.

A clever woman married to a simple man now having the opportunity to manipulate him in the name of the Lord. Does Paul’s comment seem a little clearer now?

Tell me honestly, tell me you don’t know at least one woman who does not terrorize her household with an iron hand and a bible verse?

Tell me you don’t know at least one family where the wife has taken over the man’s duty to be the spiritual leader of the family? Whether by default or not.

Tell me you haven’t seen these kind of interpersonal dynamics in a church?

That’s what I thought.

Are you getting a picture of what was going on in the church at Ephesus now? Now re-read both Ephesians and the Letters to Timothy in light of that understanding.
Aside from Ephesus and Timothy

Timothy and Ephesus weren’t the only ones who were having problems with freedom. Paul had to confront Peter and chew him out. Peter and other Jews were enjoying the freedom of Christ, but had fallen into the practice of making Gentiles obey Jewish laws in order to be Christians. Paul set him straight right quick. You can read the account in Galatians 2 – “I spoke up to Peter in front of them all: “If you, a Jew, live like a non-Jew when you’re not being observed by the watchdogs from Jerusalem, what right do you have to require non-Jews to conform to Jewish customs just to make a favorable impression on your old Jerusalem cronies?” We Jews know that we have no advantage of birth over “non-Jewish sinners.” We know very well that we are not set right with God by rule-keeping but only through personal faith in Jesus Christ. How do we know? We tried it—and we had the best system of rules the world has ever seen! Convinced that no human being can please God by self-improvement, we believed in Jesus as the Messiah so that we might be set right before God by trusting in the Messiah, not by trying to be good.”

But as I said, the best way to understand Scripture is to look at Scripture as a whole and understand things in light of Scripture. For example, when writing to the Church at Rome – Romans 16:1 Paul writes that – “I commend unto you Phebe our sister, which is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea.“ What is important about this verse, which has been corrected in some translations, is the word being translated as servant. The Greek word “diakonon“, the masculine word normally translated as “deacon“. This word, or the gender neutral version “diakonoi” is used throughout the New Testament when referring to deacons. There is no reason, other than inherent gender bias to not translate it as deacon.
Freedom in Christ

The message of the risen Christ is one of freedom. When it comes to the rights, responsibilities, and status before God, we look to Galatians 3:28 “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise…“

We are free.

Paul does say it is better to be single than attached. But there is no sin in being married, just that ones priorities are different. The single person may devote them self completely to what God wants. The married person, by God’s command, must devote them self to their partner, and obey God by fulfilling the role that comes with that partnership.

In marriage, the woman does not hold authority over the man, nor is she the spiritual leader of the family. It is not her role to instruct her husband (or someone else’s husband) in what God wants. That is between her husband and God. If you have any “But what if’s…” with that, I would have to ask if you chose your man wisely, and whether you trust God to fulfill His part of the relationship?
Conclusion

But what about the question? Can a woman be a pastor?

If she is a single woman, is she complying with the list detailing what righteousness consists of, is she devoted to the Lord, studied, on the watch for error, trained in truth, chaste, modest, has a servants attitude?

If she is married, is she completely fulfilling her God mandated role as wife?

Will she be able to not interfere with the spiritual relationship between other couples in her role as a pastor?

Well, I’d say those are questions for you to answer.

For anything else, we walk by faith.

No Excuse

Stephen Ardent's contribution this week.
Stephen Ardent's Triond profile.
Scripture states quite plainly that even those who have never heard the Gospel are without excuse. How can this be?
Published by Stephen J. Ardent in Christianity on October 3, 2009

A non-believing acquaintance of mine recently asked me why a good God would create so many outright horrors in the natural kingdom. In particular he pointed out to me the Ichneumonoid Wasp. If you are unfamiliar with this wasp it is from the family Ichneumonoidea. It’s most compelling feature is that it is parasitic, in that it seeks out other creatures, usually caterpillars or spiders, and lays its eggs inside the other creatures bodies. The larvae when they hatch will then consume the creature as food. In the case of the Ichneumonoid Wasp, the larvae do not kill the host outright, instead eating the fat and lesser organs first, keeping the creature alive until the last possible moment. The it emerges leaving only an empty husk behind.

Such is the stuff nightmares are made of (or low-budget horror flicks).
Image Via Wikipedia

The argument is – If God is so good why would He make such a creature, so cruel, so lacking in compassion, so grotesque?
The Parable

The Ichneumonoid Wasp is a physical parable here to teach us.

Scripture says – “…that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.“–Romans 1:19-20

The Ichneumonoid Wasp is a perfect representation of the natural man. A creature by itself and outside of the peaceful harmony God had intended. Machine-like self-assertion, above all else. The pursuit of self-will, no thought of others except as objects to be used. Death to the competition. The only harmony, the stillness of death and loss.

The pursuit of selfish goals being our only concern.

So? What is OUR real problem with the Ichneumonoid Wasp? I’ll tell you what it is. Ethics free efficiency.

Image via Wikipedia
The Law of Good

“…I will put my laws into their minds, and write them in their hearts.” Hebrews 8:10

Ethics, morals, goodness, virtue, all these things are apparently in direct violation of universal law as we know it. Lessons of conduct that fly in the face of the tenets of the natural world.

Discipline, restraining the ego of self, learning how to let go of self-will for higher pursuits.

The Ichneumonoid Wasp doesn’t know what the term “good Samaritan” means.
Helping others in need. The concept of self-sacrifice.

Laws, morals, ethics, virtue, are the antithesis of natural evolution.

Now is it clear when Scripture says – “For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.“

How many people, how many families, do you know who behave like the Ichneumonoid Wasp in their daily lives, at work, or at play?

That’s why it bothers and behooves us.

That’s why we approach it with horror.

It violates the laws that God has written in our hearts and minds.

It’s the mirror in which we see ourselves.

Fundamental Differences Between Monotheism and Polytheism

How monotheistic beliefs and polytheistic beliefs differ more than just in the amount of deities they worship.

Published by Shelly Barclay in Religion on June 29, 2009

By definition monotheism is the belief in, and worship of, one god only. Polytheism is, by definition, the belief in, and worship of, many gods and/or goddesses. Both polytheistic and monotheistic religions have existed for thousands of years. At this time, there is no way of knowing which came first. However, this is the subject of frequent debate. There is, and always will be, many events in history that modern man is unaware of. Therefore, this matter will probably never be decided on. Even if we label the oldest known religion on Earth as the certain victor, there will always be a difference between oldest known and oldest.

In ancient and modern times groups of people have practiced both monotheistic and polytheistic religions. Not all religions can be labeled as either monotheistic or polytheistic. However, these two beliefs are the most fundamentally different of all beliefs. This does not include atheism, which is, in essence, radically different from both of these beliefs.

The following are examples of popular monotheistic and polytheistic faiths.
Monotheistic Religions
Christianity

Image via Wikipedia

Christianity and all of its denominations are monotheistic religions. Though followers of these religions may worship Jesus Christ or Mary, they believe in only one god. Followers of Christianity believe that God created everything and that his son, Jesus, died for our sins. Catholicism was the first of the Christian religions, but there are currently many Christian denominations.

Judaism

Image via Wikipedia
Judaism predates Christianity; it was founded in Mesopotamia. Judaism is similar to Christianity in that theirs is a monotheistic faith and they believe in the same god. For the most part, the similarity ends there. Jews do not believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins. In fact, Jews believe that God hates human sacrifice. Adherents to Judaism also do not believe in original sin; they believe that we are all born without sin. Unlike many other religions, you cannot simply “believe” in Judaism to become Jewish. You must either be born Jewish or go through the complicated task of converting to Judaism to become a Jew. Jews are also interesting in that their label denotes both a religion and a nationality.
Islam

Image via Wikipedia

Islam is currently the largest practicing religion in the world. Muslims are the followers of Islam and are strictly monotheistic. Their god is, what they believe to be, the one true god. The god of Islam is called Allah.

Other popular monotheistic faiths include Sikhism and Rastafari.
Polytheistic Religions

Buddhism

Author Tevaprapas Makklay

Buddhism is around 2,500 years old and has its roots in India. Most Buddhists are polytheistic, while others practice their religion exclusively though meditation. At the heart of Buddhist beliefs is the belief in reincarnation, or rebirth. Buddhism has the fourth largest number of adherents of any religion on Earth.

Author Nyo.

Wicca is a polytheistic or sometimes pantheistic religion. The workings and worship of nature are at the heart of Wicca. Wiccans practice their religion by performing spells and rituals, each of which has its own specific purpose. Some Wiccans adhere to the belief that there is the God and the Goddess, while others believe that there are many goddesses and gods. Wiccan belief places a strong emphasis on the free will of all men and women.

Other widely-known polytheistic beliefs include the religions of the ancient Egyptians, Sumerians, Greeks, Romans and Aztecs.

Aside from the obvious differences between monotheism and polytheism, there tend to be other fundamental differences between these two beliefs. Moral standards, perception of the afterlife (if any), and the means of worshiping their god or gods are just of few other areas in which monotheistic religions and polytheistic religions differ. Sometimes these beliefs have quite marked differences, and some of their adherents can be forceful and vocal about their beliefs.

For example, certain monotheistic faiths believe that homosexuals have earned themselves a ticket to hell. Wiccans, on the other hand believe (correctly) that the act of even concerning yourself with someone else’s choice of a partner goes against their free will, and that goes against Wiccan principle.

Another example would be that many monotheistic religions believe that reincarnation cannot happen because it is not God’s will. On the other hand, many polytheistic religions believe that reincarnation is inevitable. In fact, Buddhists believe their actions in this life, up until the very moment of death, will affect the manner of their reincarnation.

All in all, there are simply too many differences between these two beliefs to have an exhaustive list here. The question of who is right and who is wrong has no place in this article. There are enough people fighting about this all over the world, some even have the same fundamental belief systems. We will not argue with them today.

Special thanks to Angelique, no matter how far away you go, my heart follows you.
