It is one of the most mind boggling things I have ever read.
Most of us are familiar with the massively big number googol.
1×10^100
1 with a 100 zeros
10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000
However you want to call it is still a huge number, in fact so big that it exceeds the number of atoms in the known universe it would take you 3×10^35 years to count to. But of course it is not even close to the biggest number anyone can muster.

Googolplex- 1×10^10^100 power.
1×10^google power
It is not infinity (infinity is not a number, it is an expression) but it is as close as you can get. This number is so big that if you took all the matter in the universe and converted it into ink and paper and started to write out each zero, in regular 12 point font, you would not even get 10 percent of the way there before you ran out of ink.
Number Crunch
The Earth has about 5×10^50 atoms
The Sun has about 4.19×10^55
Our http://scienceray.com/astronomy/our-amazing-solar-system-and-beyond/“>Solar System has about 4.2×10^55 (The sun is huge)
The KNOWN universe has about 7×10^83 atoms and 99.9999999999999% of these are hydrogen
The Earth will end on December 21, 2012 whether you like it or not

This was probably not the most interesting article but I had thoughts that I wanted to get out.
Wow this is actually some very intresting stuff. But I assure you I will do everything I can to count to 1x10^100 by the end of the day.
ReplyDeleteThere are lots of numbers bigger than googolplex. Googolduplex is 10^googolplex, googoltriplex is 10^googolduplex etc. If you want to look at a REALLY big number that makes the others seem microscopic, check out Graham's Number, too complicated to explain here but easy to find on the net.
