Deep Thoughts…
I used to have a handle on life - but it broke.
I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left.
I like what Bette Middler told Rosie O'Donnell when the talk show host asked about her childhood. Instead of answering the question the way most of us would, by pointing out all of the dysfunction and abuses which we use as excuses for our flaws and the bad choices that we make. I thought that Bette's attitude was very wise. We had little or no control over the events of our childhood, but we have control over our lives as adults. We need to stop blaming our parents for the people we have become.
I heard a great word picture from the world of gardening to illustrate this point: we start our adult lives with the tools that our parents give us. Some people were given a garden tractor to work up the soil of our gardens. They zoom along with relative ease. But some of us got a broken spoon to dig with. We have to work much harder, but that doesn't mean that we can't work up our gardens. With persistence and perseverance, we can work our way up and buy our own garden tractors.
And this one is just for fun:
The Pope, Billy Graham, and Oral Roberts all died and met up at the Pearly Gates. The angel in charge of housing apologized profusely for not having their heavenly homes quite ready. He told them that they would have to spend a few days in hell while he finished up. A week later, he went to hell to let them know that heaven was ready for them to move in. Satan said, "Finally! Get these guys out of here! The Pope has forgiven everyone, Billy Graham has everyone saved, and Oral Roberts has raised enough money to build a crystal cathedral!"
